Despite the searing heat, St Peter"s Church in the
Nottinghamshire village of East Bridgford was packed for "Home Comforts", a musical evening staged by Nottingham
Concert Band
Steered by Music Director Robert Parker, the 60+
members of the band presented a diverse programme. Highlights included the première
of Concerto for Concert Band by local composer David Machell, who leapt from his
seat during the closing bars to congratulate the band on their interpretation.
Other music on the programme included Guy
Woolfenden"s Gallimaufry suite, contrasting this with a musical mystery tour
taking in G&S, Eric Coates" Dam Busters March, Adele"s Skyfall and the
sad tale of Goldilocks, which was narrated by East Bridgford"s own Geoff Soar.
Proceeds
from the event were donated to church funds.
