Autumn Winds blew through the church of St Mary the Virgin in
Bunny when Nottingham
Concert Band (Robert Parker) staged a concert of contrasts for a capacity
audience raising almost £1,000 for the Church Fabric Fund. The programme for
the evening for the 60-strong band included a selection of light classics,
show-time medleys and contemporary wind band music.
The concert included the premiere of a wind band version
of Elgar’s So Many True Princesses Who Have Gone. Otherwise known as
Queen Alexandra's Memorial Ode, the work has been recreated by Elgar Society
member John Morrison some 80 years after the original manuscript went missing.
The programme closed with A Nottingham Festival by
Philip Sparke. This was only the second public performance of the piece, which
Nottingham Concert Band was able to commission to mark its 20th anniversary
earlier this year.
