Despite the wintry conditions, over 60 members of
West Bridgford-based Nottingham Concert Band (Robert Parker) turned out
to begin rehearsals for the coming season of events.
Plans are already underway for the band’s Spring
concert, which is being staged on Saturday 7 March in the De la Beche Theatre at
the British Geological Survey headquarters in Keyworth at the invitation of the
Mayor of Rushcliffe, Councillor Barrie Cooper. All proceeds will go to the
Mayor’s chosen charity, which this year is the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit
at Nottingham University Hospital. Councillor Cooper aims to raise enough money
to purchase an Ultrasonic Cardiac Output Monitor (Uscom) 1A FlowTracer, a
non-invasive cardiac output monitor which monitors the heart function of
critically ill children.
The Band is preparing a varied programme for the evening,
promising a mix of swing-time favourites, solo spotlights and medleys from stage
productions peppered by less familiar works from the contemporary wind band
repertoire.
